Best ever IB Consulting Awards bring profession together

Friday 18th December 2009

December saw the third Annual IB Consulting Awards, held this year at London's Langham Hotel, which built on the success of previous events with a greatly expanded list of categories and many more attendees than last year. Presenting the evening, IBC director Lynda Purser reflected on how far the Awards had come since 2007's  "village fete in a basement".

“We’ve come a long way, and these are the best IBC Awards ever,” she said. “There’s also been a 50% increase in applications, which is encouraging—but we need to do more.”

Purser said the intention was to recognise even more IBC members’ achievements next year, but wanted the membership to decide which new categories would be added.

“We need to hear from you,” she said. “How do you want the event to develop?”

One suggestion was to have regional heats leading up to a national event, but the IBC urgently needs member feedback on whether to develop this idea.

Purser also too the opportunity to thank the event’s sponsors:  overall sponsor, brokers Bannerman Reeves, the leading supplier of discounted insurance products to IBC members; and Ernst & Young and online consultancy “marketplace” Skillfair, who sponsored the Best International Project and Management Consultant of the Year awards respectively.

Purser also extended her thanks to Brian Ing for shouldering the responsibility of chairing the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes for the last ten years.

Finally she thanked outgoing IBC chair Alan Downey.

“He’s been an exceptional chair, unstinting in his support of IBC” she said. “His authority and depth of knowledge have positioned IBC more strongly in the market.”

Downey also became the first recipient of the Mastery-level CMC (Certified Management Consultant) award, a new grade of CMC aimed specifically at senior consultants.

“Senior experienced consultants don’t view the CMC as an adequate representation of their seniority,” said Purser. “We’ve developed the Mastery-level CMC in the hope that many more people like Alan will seek to become Mastery-level certified consultants.”
